Engagement ring vs wedding ring costs…?

I’ve heard it’s tradition for a man to spend 2 month’s salary on an engagement ring, but what about the wedding ring? If you spend, say, £5,000 on an engagement ring, how much should the wedding ring cost in comparison? And I know this is based on preference, but do women in the UK and US usually have a diamond set wedding ring, or plain?
Should the wedding ring cost about 1/3 of the price of the engagement ring then?

I always thought that the engagemnt ring WAS the wedding ring…weird Are you saying I have to buy two rings????
