I’m starting a wedding music company. How much have you paid in the past for music?

I’m talking about violin/piano/organ for the service….or a string quartet?

I’d love to hear examples from anyone who has gotten married and gotten classical music for their service or reception.

The thing you should think about isn’t just what people have paid in the past, but what they would rather pay for wedding services. I know I’ve had quite a time finding dj services for my reception, because people want to charge an arm and a leg for four hours worth of work! What’s worse is the string quartets that charge exorbitant prices for music that lasts an hour max for a ceremony. The best way to start off your business is to look into what people in your area are already charging and undercut the prices. You’ll get more business because you’re offering the same service at a better price. I know one string quartet I looked into was charging $850 for ceremony music. That’s just absurd! Just because people have never planned a wedding before doesn’t mean they’re stupid. Maybe charge an average of $75 per musician per hour and if it is a single musician, a flat rate of $100. That sounds reasonable, and as a former musician myself, I would be willing to accept that kind of compensation as fair. I sure don’t make $75/hour working in an office! Good luck with your business. I decided to hire a friend of mine who plays piano. She’s doing our ceremony for $80 which is a steal.
