What can my fiancé’s 12 year old cousin do in our wedding?

I wanted to use her to be a Junior Bridesmaid but I didn’t want her 11 year old brother to feel left out and my fiancé doesn’t think he can behave the entire time for our wedding. So I need another job for them that is important because they, particularly her, mean a lot to me (I grew attached to her right away when I met her even though I don’t like kids when they’re as young as she was). I sorta felt like she was to old to be flower girl which his (our) niece (8 yrs old) is doing.

Make her a junior bridesmaid and him a junior usher. Do so with the parents’ understanding that it is not your job to babysit them on your wedding day, and they need to reign both kids in if they start to get out of hand.

Keep in mind that the brother may not have an interest in being in the wedding party. Run it by the parents: Tell them that you’d love to have their daughter as a junior bridesmaid but don’t wait to leave out their son. You could offer to pay for part of their attire as well.

I think your fiance also is underestimating the brother’s ability to contain himself. At the wedding he’ll have to control himself for maybe an hour tops, and will have to walk his sister down the aisle at the recessional. And at the reception, everybody’s letting loose, and you can have those two sit with their parents instead of at the head table if behavior is really that much of an issue. He’s 11, not 3. That’s sixth grade. He should be able to comport himself properly, especially if it’s explained to him how important this day is and that he needs to be on his very best behavior.
