Eloping ! And would like to know the etiquette on gift registry?

LaLa (nickname) is eloping. She and her soon-to-be husband is saving for a house so spending 20 grand on a wedding seems counterproductive. They will have a cruise wedding .Anyone can come granted they pay.

Giving a wedding gift is not considered a reciprocation for going to the wedding. It should be your friends’ way of helping you celebrate a momentous occasion in your life. So you register and you send out invitations like any other wedding. Whether someone gives a gift or not is their own choice, but etiquette says this is like any other wedding. However, I wouldn’t be offended if someone doesn’t give you a gift because some people don’t think of it the same way.
