Where is a good place to buy a loose moissanite stone?

I am looking for a high quality moissanite stone and am wondering if anyone can recommend a website. I see a few, but don’t know how reputable they are and if the stone is of high quality. This is going to be the center stone for my wedding ring, so I do want it to be a great stone.

Of course every moissanite jewel is high quality. They are all one grade, and Charles & Colvard, the only source for moissanite jewels, does not sell any moissanite jewel that does not pass stringent quality tests. But like many other fine jewels, each moissanite is unique, so it is sometimes best to see the actual jewel you are buying to determine if it meets your own specific criteria. Since you are looking for a loose moissanite jewel, you don’t have to worry about the ring quality. (I assume you have the ring.) But you do need to find a retailer that sells loose moissanite jewels, since many large retailers only sell the finished jewelry.

My first suggestion for finding a loose moissanite jewel would be to find a good local small jeweler. There are some that regularly carry moissanite jewelry and loose jewels, but there are not a lot of these. If you can find one, that would be great, since they would be familiar with moissanite. If not, perhaps you can find a helpful local jeweler and ask them to order some moissanite jewels for you to view, or order one with a policy that you can exchange it if necessary. Virtually all jewelers have access to moissanite jewels through a distributor. If a jeweler tries to change your mind about moissanite, RUN !, that is a bad sign about the credibility of that jeweler.

In the past, they have occaisionally had moissanite trunk shows at some of the large retailers. And there are sometimes loose jewels available during those shows. But I am not sure if any trunk shows are happening currently.

There are some online retailers that are reputable from what I hear, but I can’t give any personal recommendation. As always, you have to use your own best judgement, since there are many shady online entities also.
