What outdoor areas are free or low cost for weddings?

I am looking for a place to have a wedding for free or very low cost. The food, chairs, pretty much everything would be provided by family so I am just looking for a locaton.

Most public parks have spaces that you can use for a very low cost (normally just the fee for a permit, which you have to reserve in advance. I live in DC and reserving a large picnic pavilion at Rock Creek Park is only $7.00. You can reserve one of the fancier event spaces, like the garden area, for just $200. If you’re lucky enough to live near a beach, most public beaches will also sell you an event permit.

So look up the park service in your area – bigger and national parks will definitely have websites, others should at least have a phone number for a ranger’s or administrator’s office – and ask about their permits and policies. Be sure to ask about the rules about food service (they might say no glass containers, for example), how many people can attend in the area you reserve, noise/music, etc.
