Engagement Invite Etiquette

I’ve gone through answers but still can’t get a clear answer for me. Got invited to a wedding.?

For an acquaintance I don’t hang out with, see occasionally at other acquaintance events (known a few years). Didn’t even know about the engagement personally but through word of mouth. Believe invited because of circle of friends. Won’t be able to attend. What is the etiquette on gift giving in this situation? Thank you answer folks!

If you do not attend, you do not have to send a gift, though it is polite to.

If you think you will have contact with this person in the future, it may be good to send something. If the friendship is dwindling, don’t worry about it.

Note: gifts are ALWAYS optional.
