Engagement Etiquette Parents
Heirlooms as engagement rings?
I just wondered, is there an etiquette on the source of family heirlooms as engagement rings? As in, should a ring come from a parent, or a grandparent, or are both acceptable (traditionally)?
As long as the owner is willing to pass it along, it can come from the guy when proposing. It’s acceptable to gain permisison from the current owner. The current owner should also realize that once it’s gifted, it’s gone. It’s unacceptable to ask for it back after the ceremony. It is only acceptable to ask for the ring back if the couple do not go through with the wedding.
