Design Engagement Ring

Would it be rude to re-design the engagement ring my fiance gave me?

I recently got engaged to a wonderful man, however, the ring which he proposed to me with was picked out by his mother and isn’t quite my taste or size… Recently, while looking into re-sizing, I came across the idea of jewelry re-design. I plan on using the materials from the original ring for sentimental value and plan on adding a few small stones from one of my mothers rings. I haven’t discussed this with either of them yet and I don’t want to hurt any feelings, but this is the ring I plan on wearing for the rest of my life and I’d like to be happy with it as well. I’d appreciate opinions from guys that are engaged, or planning on it, as well as the opinions of the mothers of “grooms to be”.

I wouldn’t use the word rude here, Hon..but it could be potentially hurtful……so before you do anything, approach your fiance on your idea carefully and see what he says….focus on the fact the ring doesn’t fit and needs to be re-sized, then take the ‘alterations’ from there..your approach could be that since there’s a bit of his mother in the ring because she helped in picking it out, you would like a little bit of your mother in it by adding some small stones from one of your mother’s rings…approach it that way and I can’t see how he can be hurt over that….your MIL should NOT be part of the decision, yes she helped pick out the ring, but it’s your ring on your finger….good luck.
