HAZARDOUS BIO: Accomplished and awarded musician and writer Kari Kirsch/Glitz Batty began artistic studies at an early age in classical piano and jazz dancing. While in college (Albion University/Michigan State University) she focused her training in vocal performance, philosophy and a/v production. Collaborating with alternative rock musicians in Detroit and Chicago she performed as lead singer and cowriter in the bands Instant Alchemy and Nomad . Upon moving to Chicago in 1993, Kari joined the pop-punk trio Great Caesar's Ghost and subsequent grunge project Fool Proof 100.
Realizing her goals of learning and composing on guitar, in 1995 Kari formed the goth/psychobilly influenced three-piece The BeesKnees and also released the solo acoustic album “The Matters at Hand” . Although the bands all had growing success, changing lifestyles and goals of the members caused them to disband. Disappointed with the short longevity of these pursuits, Kari decided to focus her energies on her career as a solo artist.
In 2002 Glitz put together a recording studio (Cemetery Records) and solidified the concept for the experimental horror inspired project – the Belfry. Combining a love for raw, dark music with continued studies in the occult and paranormal sciences plus a dose of theatrical glam, Kari knew she had found her next focus as an artist. Inspired by visionaries such as David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Nina Hagan and Ed Wood coupled with the noticeable void of dangerous and complex female archetypes in modern culture, the undead existentialist monster Glitz Batty was created. The noise saturated and provocative album Unruly! Undead! Unsatisfied! was produced and released independently by Glitz Batty in 2004 as an introductory concept for the Belfry.
Borrowing from many influences including deathrock and electronica, the music of the Belfry is best labeled www.cryptoindustrial.com, a phrase recently coined by Glitz Batty upon realizing that there was no named genre to aptly describe this modern musical direction (www.cryptoindustrial.com). the Belfry has been compaired to 45 Grave , Alien Sex Fiend , PJ Harvey , White Zombie , and L7. Glitz currently performs solo with the addition of a theremin or guitar for a electrified wake-the-dead performance.
Glitz Batty is currently seeing management and representation. For more info see imbd resume or contact Glitz Batty of the Belfry : Website : www.GlitzBatty.com
